Executing Successful Projects Series 2: Project Communication
Course Description
While the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK®), stresses the importance of project communication (even raises it to the status of a knowledge area) and provides the communication matrix as a tool for planning project communication, it does not necessarily assist project managers with the wide-ranging set of communication skills needed for the scope of communication required of the competent project manager. The second series in the Executing Successful Project Certificate goes beyond a matrix – who you need to communicate with – to how to communicate with them. Learn to prepare and execute discussions on brainstorming, solution evaluation, and decision-making. Get comfortable with conflict for better problem-solving during monitor and control. All projects bring change. While many project teams in larger organizations are assigned to someone to focus on change management, smaller projects or smaller organizations do not have that expertise assigned. In these cases, it is in the project manager’s best interest to have an understanding of change so that they can use tools to manage sponsors, stakeholders and team members through the changes brought by the project. Note: The courses in this align with the Leadership Category of the PMI® Talent Triangle®. While anyone experienced in project management knows the need for being balanced in technical skills, leadership skills, and business acumen, Project Management Institute® now formally acknowledges this with its Talent Triangle®. The talent triangle is “an ideal skill set…or combination of technical, leadership, and strategic business management expertise” to meet the evolving demands of the project management profession.
