In this course, you will acquire the essential skills and information you will need to install, upgrade, repair, configure, troubleshoot, optimize, and perform preventative maintenance of basic personal computer hardware and operating systems.

Length: 63 hours

The target student is anyone with basic computer user skills who is interested in obtaining a job as an IT professional or PC technician.  In addition, the course will help prepare students to achieve a CompTIA A+ Certification

To be successful in this course, students should have the following skills and knowledge prior to registering:

  1. Familiarity with Windows®-based personal computers, including:
    • the ability to browse and search for information on the Internet
    • start up, shut down, and log on to a computer and network
    • run programs
    • move, copy, delete, and rename files in Windows Explorer®
  2. Basic knowledge of computing concepts, including:
    • the difference between hardware and software
    • the functions of software components, such as the operating system, applications, and file systems
    • how a computer network functions

The CompTIA A+ 220-901 exam covers PC hardware and peripherals, mobile device hardware, networking and troubleshooting hardware and network connectivity issues.

The CompTIA A+ 220-902 exam covers installing and configuring operating systems including Windows®, iOS®, Android®, Apple OS X® and Linux®.  It also addresses security, the fundamentals of cloud computing and operational procedures.

The cost of the exams are included in the price of the course.

  • Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. starting on September 4th through November 1, 2018 (63 hours total class time)

CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+)


CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+) is an international, vendor-neutral cybersecurity certification that applies behavioral analytics to improve the overall state of IT security.  CySA+ validates critical knowledge and skills that are required to prevent, detect, and combat cybersecurity threats.

Courses are face-to-face, and attendance is required.

  • Length: 35 total hours

All course materials including access to an exam simulator are provided.

This non-credit course will prepare you to take the CompTIA exam to earn the CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst Certification.  This is a vendor-neutral and globally recognized industry certification.

CompTIA CySA+ is ISO/ANSI 17024 accredited.

Participants will receive a voucher  for one attempt at the CySA+ Certification exam (CSO-001).

Metropolitan State University is a CompTIA Academy Partner.

This course continues the career pathway for someone who has 3-5 years of experience working in the IT fields of security or system administration.  It provides knowledge used in the roles of Cybersecurity Service Provider (CSSP) analyst, incident responder, auditory, information assurance technician and more.

Gain the skills and knowledge to:

  1. Configure and use threat detection tools
  2. Perform data analysis
  3. Interpret results to identify vulnerabilities, threats, and risks to an organization.

It is recommended for CompTIA CySA+ Certification candidates to have the following:

CompTIA Security+


In this non-credit course, you will build on your knowledge and professional experience with security fundamentals, networks, and organizational security as you acquire the specific skills required to implement basic security services on any type of computer network. This is the primary course you will need to take if your job responsibilities include securing network services, devices and traffic, as a whole including the physical security elements and operational security measures.

Courses are face-to-face, and attendance is required.

  • Length: 35 total hours

 

This non-credit course will prepare you to take the CompTIA exam to earn the CompTIA Security+ Certification.  This is a vendor-neutral and globally recognized industry certification.

CompTIA Security+ meets the ISO 17204 standard and is approved by the U.S. Department of Defense to fulfill Directive 8570.01-M requirements.  It is compliant with government regulations under the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA).

Participants will receive a voucher for one attempt at the Security_ Certification exam (SYO-401).

This course continues the career pathway for someone who has 3-4 years of experience working in the IT fields of network or database administration.  It provides knowledge used in the roles of security analyst, security specialist, network security engineer and more.

CompTIA Network+


According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 12% job growth is expected in network and computer systems over the next seven years.  Additionally, CompTIA Network+ professionals are known to excel in their jobs.  53% of IT and business executives agree that certified staff perform at a higher level than non-certified staff; this according to the CompTIA International Technology Adoption and Workforce Trends report.  Global Knowledge’s IT Skills and Salary Report estimates the average salary of a Network+ Certified IT professional at about $74,000.  This course will build on your existing user-level knowledge and experience with personal computer operating systems and networks to present fundamental skills and concepts that you will use on the job in any type of networking career.
